Hibiscus Tea – Love it!

October 31st, 2012

I first discovered this wonderful tea last year while I was in Mexico.  I enjoyed a beautiful glass of iced hibiscus tea on arrival to my hotel.  It was wonderfully refreshing with a lovely, slightly sweet taste to it.  In fact, I thought perhaps they had added sugar to the tea but it was simply the sweetness of the hibiscus – nothing added.  My tea had also been made from freshly picked hibiscus flowers, picked daily by the chef and steeped for all the guests of the hotel to enjoy – talk about special!

Upon arriving home, I decided that I wanted to continue enjoying my new discovery.  A visit to my local health food store provided me with a number of options to choose from and so I decided to try the Hibiscus tea from The Republic of Tea and I wasn’t disappointed.  Although not steeped from freshly picked hibiscus flowers it certainly brought me back to that first taste back in Mexico.

The best part of enjoying something this delicious is also finding out that it comes with potential health benefits.  Hibiscus tea is rich in Vitamin C, antioxidants and minerals which makes it a great tea to help treat colds and coughs.  It’s powerful antioxidants are also shown to strengthen the immune system as well as aid in lowering and maintaining healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels.  Drinking Hibiscus tea also known to cool the body, so it’s a great drink to sip on during hot days!

Hibiscus tea – hot or chilled – has been a great find and a tea that I know I’m going to enjoy for years to come!
